An Insight Into Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty more popularly known as the nose job is a kind of plastic surgery procedure that involves correcting and reconstructing the nose. There are two main kinds of plastic surgery used namely cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery.

Reconstructive surgeries are mostly done to restore the functions and forms of the nose whereas cosmetic surgery improves the appearance of the nose. Reconstructive surgeries are focused to resolve nasal injuries that are caused by the number of traumas, penetrating traumas, and also the traumas that are caused by the blast injuries.

Through reconstructive surgeries, people are also cured of birth defects, failed primary rhinoplasties, and breathing problems. There are a number of patients who would like to treat their bumps, narrow the width of the nostrils, alter the angle between their nose and mouth as well as correct their injuries and birth defects or even other problems that affect their breathing patterns for instance problems like sinus conditions or deviated nasal septum’s. Functional rhinoplasty aims to straighten the septum which is the source of difficulty in breathing.

There is also the aesthetic rhinoplasty which aims to modify the morphology of the nose either at the level of the bony upper part or at its lower part, the movable one which is known as the cartilaginous.

Things to consider before a rhinoplasty surgery

Rhinoplastiemontreal is indeed a great way to treat your nose disorders. Here are a few things that are mandatory to consider before the surgery of the patient:

  • Identify the expectation of the patients- The most important thing is to clearly simplify the objectives of rhinoplasty. The patient must fully explain the desire for change he wishes. Working on black and white medical photographs is essential. It makes it easier to carry out simulations (morphing), with respect to the profile and to imagine the expected result. You should also give the patient the opportunity to ask any questions.
  • Considering the limits and importance of computer simulations- The face simulations are, unfortunately, less precise. Be wary of the results, especially on the computer, which will not necessarily represent the end result. Nevertheless, a simulation is essential to approach the result and thus better personalize the surgical intervention. Indeed, no two faces are the same, and "tailor-made" is essential. Finally, several factors can intervene in the surgical technique and in its result: the structure of the bones of the nose, of the cartilage, the shape of the face, the thinness of the skin.
  • Limits of the operation- The surgeon must warn the patient that in the event of chronic affection of the nasal mucosa, the result may not be complete as part of a functional intervention aimed at improving breathing. The quality of the skin is also involved in the final result of a rhinoplasty. At the tip of the nose, the skin that is thick and oily may not achieve the desired refinement. Another limitation of rhinoplasty is the existence of very large nostrils. A reduction is certainly possible but at the cost of external scars which must, therefore, be accepted. Indeed, in almost all cases, apart from a major deformation (especially of the tip of the nose) and often congenital, all the scars are hidden under the rim or inside the nose. All of this must be clarified preoperatively.
